Post by Teknow on Mon 11 Feb 2013, 00:47

Okay all - I've started decorating around here! Laughing

It is going to evolve so bear with me - I'm new to this forum administration thing, but my background is IT and I've been programming computers for a living for some time now - I'll get up to speed eventually ThumbsUp

If you really hate what is going on or spot any problems or adverse effects created by the design on your machine or browser, let me know. I've stuck to a standard theme to start (safer) and will tweak it as we go. The old "beer bottle" theme is still safe, so we can go back to it if necessary.

Please use this thread to feedback any issues or suggestions.

The space to the right of the logo is for site sponsors. We've already had a decent donaton from Revolution Porsche so they need to have a "healthy" presence on here and I promise you that Russ and his team will bring value to the site. They should be given a login next week.

Enjoy!

Got another couple of sponsors, you will need to nick some artwork from there sites. Forum banners will need to be made.
1st www.angrypromotions.co.uk (may get into car show promotions, music at the minute)
2nd my place of work. Look up Bowens coaches.

Ok this is now annoying me. In the top right hand corner it says I have 3 notifications. Can't click it or do anything to find out what these are. Can it be explained? Please!

No Rob - I think I'll turn off that top bar - it was just an experiment earlier. I saw an option and ticked it :lol

It serves no useful purpose as far as I can see. Consider it TERMINATED

Do you want it back then? Laughing

Each topic page has a share option too. This seemed more useful?

Mind you I only tried Twitter, but it just fired up a blank Twitter message.

The one on the topic page fires it up and populates the message with a link to the current topic.

That's my job. I work in IT. You never seen the "IT Crowd" on telly? It is all true I tell ya!

I'll put it back on with the disclaimer "I haven't got a clue what the notifications thingy is all about". Laughing

So I just got an email inviting me back to the forum telling me

"Your last visit was Sun 24 Feb 2013 and your username is Teknow."

I can assure you it isn't. Looks like the variable substitution in the mailshot didn't go as planned... It also has my number of posts wrong "see if you can add more than the 481 posts you've already made!?" so I wonder if the payment link is correct or will we all be paying "Tecknow"'s subs?

Sorry about that. How annoying.

The substitution variables indeed seem to have failed Crying or Very sad

It sent me an email as a "test" before I sent it for real and the control panel says that the substitution variables will be replaced but that I wouldn't be able to see the "real" values ....

I'll send a grovel out. Thanks for letting me know.

Great - nice to see you round again. Hopefully you can answer some of my technical questions! Laughing

Sorry again about the mix-up ... don't blame me, I'm only a computer programmer.

Right - back into the garage to finish fitting my radiator!

Forward them over - I'll deal with them. Always will but end of the day people can log in and close thier accounts off if they no longer want to be a part of it.

By the same token, had some nice replies from people and even the editor of Classic Car Buyer magazine, who offered us some help promoting the site in exchange for access to the forum. Sorry if its given you grief Rob - I think it will generate more good than bad at the end of the day.

Not a prob mate. I'm used to it. Been running forums for years. Just take no notice anymore. Get emails saying I should not be sending them spam because they have forgotten that THEY had signed up to the forum. Even had abuse that I had got their email addresses from the 924 owners data base. Not that they had signed up.. Funny really..

I can't comment as I can't remember the old forum. I would say that on the Coupe forum, where it shows on the right the last person to post in that section it also says the topic title which is an advantage.
