What fuel do you use?
I've done a search and can't seem to find much on this. What is everybody running their 924 n/a's on?
I was thinking V Power (despite the astronomical cost). I've read some other forums saying Tesco Super 99 octane is pretty good. I really want the car to run as good as it can so will be replacing all service items ASAP and will have timing or whatever else altered to achieve this.

Re: What fuel do you use?
Was told to put in a high octane fuel on the other site but was told to use normal unleaded on here. Believe this was down to the fact that 98 octane was not around 30 years ago so the engine was designed to run on normal 95octane unleaded. If I'm wrong, sure I'll be corrected shorty
Re: What fuel do you use?
The other forum I referred to was the 924 OC one but don't tell anybody
I put V Power in my Fiat 16vt for months until somebody told me it was a waste of time as it didn't have a knock sensor.

Re: What fuel do you use?
100% it will run on normal 95 Unleaded without any problem. The valve seats are hardened and the compression ratio does not require a higher octane rating. In terms of timing ... do it by ear rather than Haynes as the engine is not new so may not require the exact factory setting. Even better get it on a rolling road and get them to tweak it.
Re: What fuel do you use?
The biggest market for the 944, like most Porsches, was the USA. US petrol is rubbish. Therefore the 944 is perfectly happy (and was designed to) run on 95 RON which in US terms is super-duper-mega-rocket-fuel (with bells on).
However. I run my 944 on super-unleaded as I am in ethanol avoidance mode. Ethanol has magical engine eating properties when it comes to Porsche engines made before 1996. Super-unleaded is the only sure-fire way to limit my ethanol exposure to an acceptable 5%.
In 2011 Porsche issued an advisory on the perils of E10 fuel and their older cars.

Re: What fuel do you use?
Brilliant advice. I always run VPower in both my Porsches. You end up paying for it somewhere, whether that be at the pump or at the workshop.
What I particularly like about "good" petrol is the additives.
Noting that Shell have now advanced to VPower Nitro + which if nothing else sounds like it should shoot you into outer space.

Re: What fuel do you use?
I read last night that a couple of 924 owners have found their cars running rough with the new V power but fine with Tesco Super and BP Momentum. As mine is running pretty rough I might give a tank of these a try before any further messing with the engine.
Re: What fuel do you use?
Car was designed for old 4 star which was 97 Ron. 95 to weak and 98 to strong.

And there the solution lays...42 litres of each it is thenhersham boy wrote:Car was designed for old 4 star which was 97 Ron. 95 to weak and 98 to strong.
But what about the ethanol issue?
Re: What fuel do you use?
every 4th fill, use the good stuff, a mechanic mate of mine recommends this as an alternative to putting any addatives in the fuel plus keeping the costs down to a minimum against using posh petrol all the time or the cost of the additives. does that make sense ?
