The Joys Of Motoring Empty The Joys Of Motoring

Just been for a quick spin to check the Laguna (that's parked in a lay by for sale) is ok.

Bad points..
- rubbish start up as usual
- fuel gauge jumping between 1/2 and 1/3 while engine idling lumpy
- switched lights on and they didn't pop up for about 20 seconds
- fan belt screeching, not had that before
- exhaust sounding like its blowing
- not running right, bogging down

Good points..
- I love the pop up lights
- doesn't she look good at night

I have no idea how you find them for that price. Even non-runners with siezed engines seem to be fetching £250!

I must start looking on www.northernebay.co.uk

Suspect

I really should start a project thread. Got in her today and the windows had stopped working. After lots of swearing it was because I'd left the fuse block hanging out and the relay was hanging out. On the way home the cassette doesn't want to rewind anymore explode

24 running like crap, fuelling issue worse than ever.

BM still not collected from Germany, new engine plus fitting will be around £1200.

Getting completely out of my depth trying to change the gearbox myself on the Fiat Coupe.

The garage rang me today with news of the BM. It s been there since last Thursday, unbeknownst to me!!
Diagnosis so far; The auxilliary belt had snapped and sheared through the 2 metal pipes that carry the transmission oil. SO the oil was from the gearbox it would seem. The pipes are well over £200 for the pair plus the 9 litres of replacement oil costs £25 per litre. Added to the belt and the labour and assuming there is nothing wrong with the engine, it should come to about £750.

I'll probably get the fuelling issue sorted on the 24 and sell it as I am so far on with the Fiat that I might as well get it going, take my plate off and sell that too.

Fair play Phil. I must admit, my immediate reaction was that it would end its days languishing in a German scrapyard.
How does half price on the ATF sound?

Things seem to improving (pending the insurance claim Rolling Eyes) with other things. The 24 is up for sale and I've had a couple of offers although too low. I'm borrowing an engine hoist for the weekend to get the gearbox out of the Fiat and am on nights next week so will hopefully put everything back together ready for an MOT. Fingers crossed it will pass and I can tax it and get my private plate switched to the BM. I might drive the coupe around for a couple of weeks then sell her. I wonder if Rob would be interested big grin

Gearbox out of the Fiat. Was easier than I expected. Needs a new clutch plate, already had a new bearing and pressure plate and flywheel are fine. £70 so not a bank breaker. Should be able to shift it much easier with all the work that will have been done.
