Re: How many left?
Very interesting. Can't help thinking there must be more than 827 manual n/a's left. At least I hope so.
Fil, stop taking them to bits chopping them up immediately!

It's interesting to look at some cars you have owned in the past E.g Renault Fuego GTX

Re: How many left?
Got the full stats somewhere and that is about what they said too. There are about 1400 on Sorn as well though.
Re: How many left?
Only 253 944s 16v left.
Not planning on giving up on mine any time soon.

Mmm... that's just a front end onto the DVLA data. You can download the whole spreadsheet here, should you feel so inclined.

Re: How many left?
I do wonder how true some of these stats are though, there were apparently 14 BMW 840's on the road in the UK 4 years before they went into production!

Re: How many left?
As with any such collection of stats pulled from a computer database, "fat fingers" will be a factor. There will inevitably be a small percentage of errors introduced by incorrect data entry.
Re: How many left?
Even if its 95% right it is still quite useful. Interesting to compare the 924 to something like a Triumph Stag where there are 2500 Stags licensed. Stags are obviously seen as a good classic car now and with those numbers there is obviously still a viable business to be had remanufacturing parts and spares. The same will not be true of the 924 i.e. with less than a 1000 out there you are not going to start re-making trim bits. So, if you want to keep em running I reckon stock on 'new old stock' stuff while it is still available.
Re: How many left?
True but remember that those are UK figures only. Worldwide the picture may well be somewhat rosier. The Stag ran out to around 25,000 units worldwide whereas the 924 (if you include the turbo) was more like 150,000.
Now true, right-hookers will be less numerous so RHD specific parts might get tricky.
Also bear in mind that Porsche continually display a solid commitment to owners of its old cars (seemingly not paying too much heed to the economics) whereas Triumph / BL no longer exist.
I think 924 owners are still in a better place than Stag owners.

I would bet good money on it
Re: How many left?
Am thinking of poss putting it up for sale after show season but there a a couple of things to do ie think bearings are gone on front, areial, chunk of paint missing on the door, not cheap to do but will devalue it alot
Re: How many left?
Bearings and aerial are straightforward and cheap, its the paint that starts to get expensive, especially as yours is quite a unique colour and will likely be difficult to match.

Re: How many left?
Trouble is , is that im not going to let it go cheap after all the work i done to it but i want the money to buy a decent daily drive.
Did do bearings a couple of years ago but dont think i done it right - thought it was the gearbox making the noise but it goes when you steer left which poss means bearings and its getting worst now.
was going to have a go at doing the spraying myself, rob and i think you said about a company who can match paint in spray cans??

Re: How many left?
Try just nipping up the bearing a bit....might sort it very cheaply

Re: How many left?
There are a few companies that will do paint in rattle cans:
http://auto-paint.co.uk/carpaint/
http://www.jawel.co.uk/
http://www.paints4u.com/
You will need the colour code though and even then its is not always possible to get a perfect match without the supplier getting a sample. Might be worth visiting a local paint factors with the fuel filler flap and see if they can match it properly.

Re: How many left?
just found the email from the previus owner who resprayed
"it is a ferrari colour, the colour code is 102 giallo medena. it was painted using ICI 2k paint, ref number WL13 which is a straight colour but we converted it to a base coat and lacquer"
Make sense tho the last bit makes no sense
Going to check Halfords!!

Re: How many left?
Basically he is saying it was a 2K paint, but he has lacquered over it. This gives an extra "dimension" to the gloss. Don't even think about using 2K products yourself as they require specialist breathing equipment on account of the hardener containing isocyantes which is, as the name suggests, loosely based on cyanide! Best bet would be to get it mixed as cellulose (this is usually what Hellfrauds use for their custom mix paint) and then use a 1K acrylic lacquer on top, which is available off the shelf.

Re: How many left?
Hmm it says there are 33 944 turbos s's left but it peaks at 72 when other stats say 200 were imported to the uk.... Unless the difference are 944 turbos with the S spec 1989/1990+ i think the s package was standard... Oh well not even sure if mine is still classed as a turbo s hehe more a collection of some of the best bits from the masters in Germany...

Re: How many left?
The DVLA do admit that the stats only reflect what is written on the log book ... I suspect that some turbo S are simply included in the turbo list.
