I no longer have a hosepipe ban...
now all I need is for it to stop raining long enough for me to get out and wash the car.

Ah... it turns out there is no need to wash the car after all. I just got this email from the Silverstone Classic
The 944 is many things but NOT practical so it shall be staying at home.
We would also urge fans not to arrive at the campsite in cherished vehicles or classic sports cars but to arrive in a practical vehicle, if possible one designed to cope with poor ground conditions. The underfoot conditions within the Campsite are extremely wet and muddy.

Oh I don't know mine was great in the snow during the heavy snow a couple of winters ago, just get some knobbly tyres are you're set

Why would that fill me with dread?!?!?

They were over-stating the problem. By the time I arrived in the Golf on Thursday the camp site was OK. I ended up making a dash home late Friday afternoon to swap it for the 944. Then, summer arrived for the rest of the weekend.

All good in the end then, and the '44 gets a run out to boot

Yup, and the lack of a hosepipe ban worked out well too as I needed it to remove several kilos of Silverstone mud from the '44's wheel arches and then de-sahara my driveway afterwards!
Re: I no longer have a hosepipe ban...
After that you probably emptied one of the reservoirs! Watch them go and start the ban again at the weekend and blame Silverstone for it
