Checking the weather daily. Getting better each day and looking dry down there all weekend. May go down on Friday night and make a weekend of it as the club is open anyway. Always a hassle pitching the tent just for one night. Plus it'll be a treat for the misses to stop her moaning about my trip to Ibiza
Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
I think if I suggested camping as a treat to Peni she would remove my knackers with a blunt hammer!
Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
Looks like only a few showers over the weekend so almost certainly going on Friday.
Anyone else? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Come on, I'm taking loads of beer [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]there should be some other people there braving the elements and there's the buffet on Saturday night [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I wonder if they'll let me do some practise runs on Saturday

Definitely going tomorrow. Brought the 24 in to work so I can do a couple of jobs. All camping gear ready and the electric cool box is brimmed with beer and wine
Popping into the local garage at 11am to tune her a bit better on the gas analyser.

And now a more in depth report......
Arrived Friday and pitched the tent and set up all of our amenities.

Had a pint in the Bugatti clubhouse but no food as they were having a meeting then went back to the tent for a few more beers. Went down the pub for lunch on Saturday. Lazed around the tent all day in the sunshine. Paid for the evening buffet in the clubhouse, lovely food and lots of it but not enough people there to really get the party started so back to the tent to finish off the beer.
Sunday morning, wandered out of the tent to find a steward to see where everybody would be parking. As I found one I was called across and found Rob, Pete and all mooching around some dodgy looking Golfs. Quick brekkie in the tent then off to do the hill runs. After listening to Rob going on about how expensive the runs were the misses and I were having the drivers brief when he goes passed to do a run
After nearly getting back out of the car twice I reassured the other half I would drive carefully so she came up the hill. 1st run great fun but the car was all over the place.2nd run better but the 24 isn't exactly built for tight turns and quick gear changes (not with me driving it anyway ). See video
Later we joined the 911 parade lap. Why not, other non 911s did so we got another free go on the hill
All in all a great weekend. Pity the event wasn't attended by more people and car clubs but a great site and facilities. John Brookes of the Marcos club was ever helpful made us feel welcome.

Forgot to add that as a result of thrashing the car the offside suspension is creaking like an old persons knees and she didn't run so well on the way home so I think the mix needs a bit re-adjusting.
Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
Sounds like you had a good time matey!
would liked to have gone but just could not get the time off:(

A racing driver in the making! Only racing drivers get their excuses in that early. "the change from second to third is shocking ......"
Good to finally meet and put a face to a name Phil. Sorry I had to bugger of early, but duty calls and I had to get into Canary Wharf to work last night.

definitely. It's been crunching a bit lately going in to 3rd unless I'm careful changing.tux wrote:A racing driver in the making! Only racing drivers get their excuses in that early. "the change from second to third is shocking ......"
Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
That sounds like the cross link on the rear linkage is getting a bit crusty. Mine was the same. The standard job is a bit of pressed steel and I replaced it with some threaded rod and a couple of rose joints. Made a HUGE difference. Also the standard cross block is plastic and I replaced mine with an ali one as it was totally worn out after 25 years. Again you wouldn't believe the difference.

3rd gear? Where on Prescott do you get into 3rd? Confused. That's why it took 1 min 10 secs to get up the hill. Steve timed my 2nd run at 59 secs. In the doggy golf

Say's Mr 'These tyres have gone right off' just after completing the 360 at the ring in someone elses motor!!!tux wrote:A racing driver in the making! Only racing drivers get their excuses in that early. "the change from second to third is shocking ......"

Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
Prescott was a great venue and I'm amazed it doesn't get a bigger crowd along.

They had gone right off. They had flat spots and no tread on them after that!PompeySteve wrote:Say's Mr 'These tyres have gone right off' just after completing the 360 at the ring in someone elses motor!!!tux wrote:A racing driver in the making! Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
I was surprised more didn't turn up on the Sunday and for the Saturday night. Looking at other forums the Retro rides day this weekend coming seems to be getting more interest.PompeySteve wrote:Prescott was a great venue and I'm amazed it doesn't get a bigger crowd along.
I might just take the BM to the ring. Too much to do on the 24 I think;
- Offside strut probably needs the top mount
- Brakes juddering under hard braking
- Engine still not running well
- Need tyres and spacers for the 17s I was going to fit
- Still have to fit the new temp sender
Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
I think that hillclimbing and sprinting simply doesn't have the thrill of motor racing for most people, so it doesn't have such a following. The nutters on RR are the exception that proves the rule. If they organised a day out at a cemetry it would be over subscribed!
I think you will enjoy the 'ring more in the Beemer and it will certainly be more comfortable getting there and back. But I reckon for what you spend on petrol getting it there, you could fix the Toofah and get it there as well!

She was supposed to be but she's so p'd off about my trip to Ibiza she says she's not coming. Will know this week as I need to tell my mate instead.tux wrote:Will Mrs. Scarletporker be accompanying you to Germany?
Fuel for the trip there and back will be around £300 in the BM with probably a tankful used on the track so that's another £80 odd. I'm not really sure what the 24 is doing to a tank but will check this week. Looking around at part worn 255s for the BM as £300 for new is a lot of my holiday budget gone [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Re: Prescott revival Aug 11th
To be fair thats not bad for petrol. I seem to recall it cost me about £230 when I took my Toofah so it is probably worth the extra to have the comfort of Bimmer.
£300 equates to about 25mpg? I'd have thought that was quite respectable for such a beastie.
