HELLO FROM IRELAND
Hi to you all,
i'm based in county wexford ireland [the sunny south east ] to be precise.
i drive a 1979 924 on a daily basis,at present i am restoring ,although very slowly a 1981 924,i am thinking strong about doing a gt turbo conversion,with possibly a 3 litre porsche engine,or maybe a maseratti 3.2 v6 twin turbo conversion,or just slap a 1.9 tdi in it ?
can't make my mind up,as common sense says go with the diesel for economy, where as the thought of having untold power at hand is a real buzz,so i just don't know , keep the licence or throw caution to the wind and really upset the boy racers and the law.
the beauty of owning a classic car in ireland is you are exempt from an MOT which allows you to put whatever you want in the car without having to worry about insurance and tax hikes ,for major modifications its just a matter of filling a form out of any mod and off you go.
anyway i also have a 3rd 924 i stripped as a donor car,so its handy to have spares.
any of you have a carrera body kit lying around gathering dust ?
as a matter of interest perhaps 1 of you can tell me how you tell the difference between the 90bhp 110 bhp and 125bhp engines that are fitted in the early 924 models.

Re: HELLO FROM IRELAND
Welcome to the forum
You guys over there in Ireland are very lucky when it comes to restoring classics shame our Government are nowhere near as classic friendly.
The different bhp depends on where in the world the car was being sold:
Cars for the US Market started with 95bhp, this was increaed to 110bhp shortly afterwards (emmisions issues as always)
European market cars always had 125bhp right from the start

Re: HELLO FROM IRELAND
thanks,as far as i know all three of my 924 cars were brought in from the UK,but i was looking at an 84 924 , 2litre 8v and it had a bigger distributer than mine which got me thinking it may be a lower hpMav666 wrote:Welcome to the forum

Interesting wings, both of them!
Welcome along fella. Have a word with hersham boy, I think he has most, if not all of a CGT kit and can usually be persuaded to part with things when he smells cash!
Pounds Sterling mind you, none od those Euro thingies!

Re: HELLO FROM IRELAND
WOW 11 grand resto!! Must look stunning.
my 2 previous cars where solid roof models, last one was a Belfast car originally as it happens, one less place for water to hide and rot the car

Re: HELLO FROM IRELAND
better off drinking on the south main st, rather than in the suburbs, can get very rough at times.tigerporsche wrote:aye it was a bit seedy when me n me mate went in for a pint, we just went back down town for a few scoops, felt a lot safer !spannernut wrote:tigerporsche wrote:hello n welcome, is the pheonix pub still going in wexford

Re: HELLO FROM IRELAND
next time you do a bike run over here let me know in advance,i do roughly 5 bike runs a year here, tigerporsche wrote:fair comment, we were on a m/bike tour at the time, lovely country toured a few times now, pity about the rain though !
and would be well know in bike circles here, i also do the odd bike show and usually have the chopper lads as guest of honour, all for charity, plus we have 3 or 4 live bands playing ,usually in Dublin.
always get a great turnout weather permitting.
have a look at my bike page on facebook.
