Snowed in and bored so here's another one for you to identify. This is one of my favourite coupes, wish I could afford one.

As a starting clue... it's NOT a Ford Puma.

Easy if you know what it is... but if not, well they didn't build that many of them.

I can see why you might think that, but no, it isn't a Maserati

No, not an Alfa either. To save a bit of time, it's not Italian. Italian styling, yes; Italian car, no.

No, not a TVR nor an Aston.

It was a refreshingly expensive toy when new. A contemporary E-Type sold for £2,200 an Aston for £4,400 and this for a bargain £5,500...

No, a smaller Italian coach-builder who had done some previous highly regarded work for Maserati, hence my earlier comment about Maserati being a good punt.

Alas no, not a Jensen but like the later Jensens a titanic American V8 nestles under that bonnet.

Post by RPUK Sun 19 Dec 2010, 08:22

ah well...

tis an AC Frua coupe sometimes called the AC 428.

It is based on a lengthened Cobra chassis with bodywork designed by Pietro Frua and has a thumping great 7 litre Ford V8 (either the 427 or 428 cu" lump) under the hood. It came in convertible or coupe forms.

Essentially it was AC's attempt to build an up-market GT based on the Cobra. Unfortunately for AC it was way too expensive.
