What bits do you carry?
I was leaving Snetterton on Saturday and stopped to speak to the driver of a rather pretty old red 911.
First thing he said was "I don't suppose you have a spare fuel pump relay?"
"Sorry, no" was my answer so unfortunately I couldn't help shorten his long wait for the AA to arrive.
This got me thinking, though. Should I be carrying "spares"? If so, what? I have a few bulbs and fuses rattling around the boot but that's about it.
What, if anything, do you guys carry around?

Re: What bits do you carry?
DME relay, jump leads, usual bits like a few spare bulbs and fuses, I think theres a couple of screwdrivers some gaffer tape and a small selection of spanners in there as well

Alternator belt, power steering belt, couple of spanners, polish, oil, water, rain-x, brake / steering fluid, antifreeze, footpump, duct tape. I think that's about it!
EDIT: same in the Mini, but including a jump start pack.

Re: What bits do you carry?
Ah well... if we're getting into that I have the "usual" car kit in there. Compressor, 3 ton tow rope, warning triangle, jump leads, decent wheel nut spanner, bulbs, fuses, first aid kit, torch, duct tape, a few tools, a litre of oil etc. Plus the '44 has a can of tyre weld since I don't trust the spare.
I was thinking along the lines of what Porsche specific spares it might be worthwhile carrying. DME relay?

Re: What bits do you carry?
Everything! (big tool roll )
Well no oil, (cos they don't use any)
loads of relays, fuses, bits of wire. compressor (have Boxter S lightweight spare), Tow strap, clutch cable, cable ties, duct tape, cam belt, battery pack
cleaning bits,gas cooker,kettle, tea bags , sugar, disposable cups.teaspoon.
Euro stuff- bulbs,vest, triangle,
cool tunes and sunglasses.....condoms (probably out of date)

Re: What bits do you carry?
Ah Porsche specific.... DME relay is really the only thing like that I guess.
Knowing what these cars are like the gaffer tape would come in handy if I was to split another hose.
And I like Will's line of thinking with the atl & p/s belts.
But I guess with RAC relay I don't really worry about it that much

Re: What bits do you carry?
Kind of my point. Don't feel the need to carry anything you wouldn't normally have anyway. It's all tucked way in the same starwars rucksack i've had in the last 3 carsRPUK wrote:Ah well... if we're getting into that I have the "usual" car kit in there.

Re: What bits do you carry?
Sure does. A damn sight cheaper than the AA and the RAC too. usually the RAc or AA that comes out anyway.

Re: What bits do you carry?
Sounds like a good tip, yes. I have heavy-duty AA cover but it isn't cheap. I'll do a comparison when it comes time to renew.
I did enjoy hearing the little sad sigh in the AA rep's voice when I phoned up to tell them I'd bought a 20 year old Porsche to go along with my 9 year old Golf

Re: What bits do you carry?
Had RAC cover for 5 years and only ever had to call them out for the Clio or the Xsara. I see a pattern emerging here
