Guilty pleasure cars
So what cars do you secretly like but keep quiet about for fear of ridicule (the GIT does not count in this thread )
Mine --- Capri's - owned a 2.8 but the one I loved was the red 1.6GL which was my second ever car.
Mini clubmans - Am I the only person in the world that prefers these to the standard car?
Fiat 500 (not copy) - I know I would look like Noddy but they are kind of cool.

Re: Guilty pleasure cars
FIAT X1/9 - quirky and fun little roadster, mid-engined with nice handling and incredibly strong (one of only a few cars designed to meet incredibly tough US safety legislation that was later abandoned as too hard to achieve). Unfortunately very prone to galloping tin-worm.
Chrysler / Talbot Sunbeam. Learned to drive in one. Would like one again just for nostalgias' sake. Possibly even more vulnerable to galloping tin worm than the FIAT.
BMW 8 Series (E31 - the wedge). Huge, impractical and thirsty. Might one day get one as Audi becomes the onanists' transport of choice and BMW gets some respectability back.

Re: Guilty pleasure cars
COOLING SYSTEM
Centrifugal pump and fan, thermostatic control for more rapid warm-up, pressurised radiator located on left of engine.
All these years thinking they were air cooled!! I'm now with Glenn and X1/9

I nearly bought that project green one on the bay the other week, if I'd had a garage it would be sat there right now.

Triumph Acclaim - First car with a 5 speed box
Mini Countryman - Would have one tomorrow if it wasnt for the Tinworm, woodworm and ridiculous price tag.

Re: Guilty pleasure cars
I had both these.. 1300 4sp and 1500 5sp. The earlier was the fastest and the best!

Oh indeed ... might still have another now I know a bit more about car electrics I know what you mean about being strong ... mine rolled off a 45 degree drive, down a very steep hill and killed a VW Polo. All I had to do was beat out the bumper iron on the X19, buy flowers for my neighbour and lie on an insurance claim form. Not sure a dodgy handbrake mechanism would have covered the £3k write off cost of the Polo and I didn't want to find out
Talking of guilty secrets ... I had quite forgotten about that neighbour until now

The X1/9 was designed to meet some proposed US crash legislation that stipulated the car must survive a 50mph head-on and 80mph roll-over. The FIAT could, but the US abandoned the legislation because it was too hard for most manufacturers to implement. Not surprised one managed to demolish a Polo.
Re: Guilty pleasure cars
I like yours by the way Chris ... mine had the (in hindsight useful!) but quite ugly bumpers.
Re: Guilty pleasure cars
All old Minis, but that's not really a secret!
I quite like Austin 1100 / 1300, and I would dealy love a Citroen DS but the whole hydraulic set up scares me
