Hello out there!!
Hi all!
Stumbled across this site after a few beers and randomly face planting the keyboard! (it's the best way to use a pc sometimes!!! )
Only managed to have a quick look so far but thought that I best say hello. So Hello! (sorry lack of sleep, too much beer and a giant will to be funny, one day, before I die made me do it.... ). I'm in Yorkshire, almost 30 (cheaper car insurance will be the only bonus I can think of so far) and have a 1982 924 that needs some fixing and a 1986 944 which helps me get through life on a daily basis (well it makes me smile a lot anyway!) . A few old pics that I've managed to dig out...

Maybe one day, but will be fixing back to standard as soon as I manage to save some money... Has anyone here tried/carried out an engine swap?
My daily is ...
Need to take a few more and will post
Guess I best get some sleep, have a busy day assembling flat-pack tomorrow ...

Re: Hello out there!!
Welcome along fella! A fine brace of Porkas you have there.
Thr V8 thing has been done a couple of times and, while not exactly easy, seems to be a lot less hassle than you may think.
Loving the Design 90's.

Welcome
I'm thinking of a '44 as a daily driver if I can get the G/F something sensible

Cheers Guys!
Man so busy at work at the mo but the bills need paying so all's well i guess!
Hehe thanks for the comments everyone and the warm welcome! Aye there is a porsche hybrids forum (I think most members are in america though) that has loads of handy tips, guides etc for V8'ing a "notarealporsche".
My dream car would still be a late black 944 turbo with red leather interior with all the trimmings esp the LSD . Although if I could find a turbo with a broken engine that would be an awesome base to make a V8 beast As the weight difference isn't very big between the engines with a bit o tweeking you can balance them up 50/50 ). I think getting the 924 back up and running (pass window, short handbreak cable, breaks, fluids, battery and neatening up a bit) is a more realistic starting point though!
The 944 was an ebay special, I bought it for a shade over £1k but have put in new belts, rollers, breaks have had to have quite a bit of welding on it also as one of the "Insert derogatory words here" previous owners had instead of cutting out the rust and welding in new plates had covered it up with 3 patch plates all held on with FILLER!!!! This was next to the rear suspension mounts so was a big issue when I took it for an MOT.... All fixed now but it could really use some new paint.. Hmm what colours to go for need to save up though (as usual) so may have to try a DIY a satin black look for a while... Haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet though...

Nice choice!! I wonder though, would transplanting a V8 into one be an improvement?

Re: Hello out there!!
Haha Nooooo it's not a blackboard!!!
Been so busy not had chance to do anything with the car yet which is bad as the recently repaired and quickly sprayed sills are starting rust.
There are quite a few places in America that offer conversions/kits to adapt a 944 to take a LS* powerhouse and there is quite a bit of info out there.
With the LS1's starting at about 350Bhp and being common as muck (well in America anyway) they can offer a lot of power for less money than say a 928 engine (not even sure if a 928 engine would fit into a 944). The LS1 and a few others actually weigh about the same as the original 944 engine (some are even lighter!) so you keep the awesome balance while effectively doubling (or more) the power. The swap while not easy peasy is supposed to be very doable with a bit ‘o’ knowledge and skill so you don’t need the engineering skills of the A-team to pull it off
Little effect on the balance, with a bit of tweaking can improve the weight distribution, big power increase with the ability to get silly if you start playing with extras so yep definitely possible to improve performance but I guess it’s all down to what you want from your car Pure unmolested 944 goodness or a corrupt screaming devil with the best curves in the world!!
I think a late 944 turbo is the best place to start (pref one with a blown engine) the up rated breaks, LSD etc etc is a much better platform to throw so much power at without having to spend a fortune on upgrading the rest of the car.
Porschehybrids has loads of info/pics on about “notarealporsche” type engine swaps. For now though I have my 1986 44 to look after (just had to replace the gear droplink, DME relay and all filters/fluids) so not much going into the hybrid kitty this month L
