Mark IV Golf 1 - Bambi's Mum 0
Unfortunately I had a coming together with a deer this morning in the Highlands. She decided to cross the road in front of me and I didn't have enough time to avoid an impact.
Unfortunately she's crossed her last road and Ye Olde Golf needs a new lower-front grill, number plate and passenger side headlamp unit.
Good job I wasn't in the 44, I'd have taken her legs out and she'd have destroyed the bonnet or come through the windscreen.

Heh... yes, I am OK thanks, but it wasn't the best way to start off a 600 mile journey.

I looked in the butchers window yesterday and he had a special offer on venison, 8 legs for £20. Is that two deer?

Groan! thats terrible Jethro!
I believe if you hit a deer you have to leave it, but if the next person along the road see's it there, then its deer for tea!

This is very true, classed as poaching if you take it yourself, goes for any game you hit, not sure if it counts with squirrels now though as the greys are techincally vermin....

From an article in "The Independent" that I found on cooking road kill (I kid you not http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/roadkill-one-from-the-road-414972.html)
Ownership of roadkill is debatable. Most country people assume that the driver who kills the rabbit, pheasant or pigeon may not make a meal of it, but the driver of the car behind can. In 2004, when I was researching my book on economic cooking, The New English Kitchen, the Highways Agency told me that it owns roadkill, but this rule is rarely enforced. It is, though, the party that is responsible for clearing it away.

and we throw it straight in to bushes and let nature have its share
If a dog or cat, taken to a freezer in case the owner mants it back

Oh well looks like is old case of chivaly
Either way you normally bruise and trauma that much of the meal its rarely worth picking up, most pheasents I've hit over the years in anything other than the one I hit in a Clio has generally exploded
the one in the Clio part exploded part buried itself in the radiator

Re: Mark IV Golf 1 - Bambi's Mum 0
Well, Bambi's mum cost me £150 including parts+labour.
New number plate, new lower grill, replacement (used) headlamp unit and whilst he was in there and had the bumper off I had my tame mechanic change both headlamp bulbs for some high output ones. He also discovered my front fog-lamp bulbs weren't working and replaced them too.
Such is the cost of a deer-strike. I think I got off lightly.

think you got off very lightly - have seen some right messes with vehs hitting deer on the motorways, even had a bloke killed a couple of years ago on the M5
Re: Mark IV Golf 1 - Bambi's Mum 0
Yep they certain can cause some damage, not a bad result and at at least now your fog lights work

Re: Mark IV Golf 1 - Bambi's Mum 0
lol yeah, although to be honest I can't remember the last time I switched the front fogs on in the Golf. I use the Porka's ones fairly often as "driving lights" in preference to deploying the air-brakes.
