Bad times... Cambelt broken on daily driver
Absolute nightmatre today! I bought a Laguna a few weeks ago as a reliable daily driver and the bloody cambelt snapped today
Only saving grace is that I bought from a dealer (thank god!!) so it'll get sorted without costing me. It had 30k miles left before it needed changing as well. Certainly made a rather unpleasant noise (like shaking a bag of spanners) so I'm asuming several bent valves when they take it appart.
Looks like i'll have to call the porka and the Mini into everyday service for a couple of weeks at least!

My past experience is that the warranty will cover the broken belt, but not the damage it did to the engine when it let go. Have you checked with Reno that it is all covered Will?

Ouch, that is bad news. I hope it is all covered under warranty.
Re: Bad times... Cambelt broken on daily driver
Bought it from a used car dealer (friend or a friend), only picked it up 2 weeks ago, and there are certian rules to protect me as a buyer (plus says in the warrenty document that it covers 'catastrophic engine failure')
II'll take him to small claims if he refuses to fix it. Should be ok though, my mate works for him and rekons he'll get it fixed...
Still leaves me a car down though!

I wish! The missus has comondeered that as she says her commute from Basingstoke to Alton is too uncomftable in the Mini (i only work 5 mins from home)
Got a call from the garage today, he's going to fix it this week and hopefully have it back for Saturday after a complete head rebuild. He even offered me the use of an Escort he's just got in as a trade in (which i politely declined!). He's very appologetic, fortunately I'm pretty laid back and am of the opinion it's just one of those things.
Just hope there's no bottom end damage, might not have it back by the w/e in that case!

Sounds like a decent guy and a pretty good result for you. Fingers crossed the bottom end is OK.

God, I have driven that road a few times having lived in Alton 4 times and Basingstoke twice! Good bit of drivers road ... you'd think she would be greatfull to do it in a Mini!
